General Meeting News & Notes
January 28, 2008 John Houghton Delaware Speedway PR
Delaware Speedway’s general meeting concluded successfully on Thursday evening at the Delaware Community centre. A wide range of topics were discussed at the gathering, along with a few announcements. In attendance were a large number of racers from all racing classes. The meeting was led by speedway Operations Manager Jerry Wilcox, Race Director Jeff Wilcox, and Public Relations Director John Houghton. Here is a brief rundown of the discussion.
- Delaware Speedway is proud to welcome the new official vehicle supplier, Exeter Toyota to the speedway team. Exeter Toyota will be working with Delaware Speedway on a new pace car and safety truck for the 2008 season. Delaware Speedway would like to thank LMP MacMaster for their strong support in past seasons and wishes them nothing but the best in the future. The speedway’s move to Toyota is a first for a Canadian speedway.
- A special welcome to all returning sponsors: Transmission Direct with the Enduro, Challenger Motor Freight with the trucks, Peterbilt of Ontario with the Super Stocks, POWERADE with the Open-Wheel Modifieds, and APC with the Late Models. Krown Body Maintenance will also be returning as the title sponsor on the Junior Racing League and Throne Kings to the “Throne Kings of the Hill”. The speedway also welcomes a new sponsor to a division, Ultimate Sandblasting & Coatings, who will be the title supporter of the new Chaos Cars class.
- Great Canadian Race Weekend Schedule: The Speedway decided to return the APC 300 to the one-day Sunday show instead of two days. The format was very successful last year and is expected to be even more successful in 2008. Competitors are advised to review the updated schedule to ensure they are aware of which day they are competing.
- Long Term Planning: A brief discussion took place regarding the speedway’s recent success securing of a long-term commitment on the land. More details in the future.
- Electronic Scoring: Delaware Speedway will begin the process of investigating the feasibility of transponder based scoring for all divisions.
- Chaos Car Race Formats: A pool of possible formats for the Ultimate Sandblasting & Coating Chaos Cars were revealed.
- Purse Structure: The speedway is proposing a new purse structure that would see year end points money added to the purses on a weekly basis and spread throughout the year. The goal is to put more money in competitor’s hands the night of events. The proposed new as well as the old structures can be viewed here. Competitors may send feedback to info@delawarespeedway.com.
- Lineup system: the speedway is considering the implementation of a new lineup system, and is looking for input from competitors. The lineup system determines how the lineups are made each night for racing. Thoughts can be e-mailed to info@delawarespeedway.com. There may be an additional meeting in the future to address this item.
- Transmission Direct Enduro drivers met following the meeting and unanimously decided not to make any major changes to the rules for 2008.
Delaware Speedway would like to thank everyone who came out to the meeting and shared their thoughts with us on where we are doing well and where we can do better. There may be an additional meeting scheduled in the future to address a few outstanding issues before the season begins.
